About Me
Rachel was born in South Wales. She is the youngest of four children - she has two brothers and a sister. She does not come from a theatrical background, however has loved acting all her life.
Her career began after she won the 'Rosebud' title at Cwmbran carnival. She went on to take part in around 20 television commercials globally - including the Sony Handicam's 'Fairies at the Bottom of the Garden'in 1991 - until she secured her first film role in 'Night Train to Venice' with Hugh Grant in 1992.
She was due to play the role of Anna in 'Mr. God This Is Anna' twice for two different production companies however the film was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. She went on to take part in numerous television roles and spent nearly three months in Rome filming 'Mister Dog' with her unlikely co-star 'Sunshonik' the dog. She played the lead role of Guilia in this Italian film which was directed by Gianpaolo Tescari and was produced by the Imagine E Cinema production company. She also had a cameo role in the film 'Happy Now?' in 2001.
She put her career on a virtual hold for a few years while she completed her education but during this time took part in several television programmes and Beauty Pageants.
She won the Wales On Sunday Newspaper's Welsh Idol competition in 2004 and has represented both South and North Wales in the Miss Great Britain contests.
In 2003 she came second runner-up in the Miss Wales Beauty Pageant. In 2005 she was voted one of the ten most fanciable girls in the UK by More Magazine readers. She completed her BA Joint Hons Degree in Drama and English and graduated in November 2005 having achieved a 2.1.
In September 2007 she returned to University to take a PGCE course in English and Drama which enabled her to teach both English and Drama in comprehensive schools.
On 5th September 2008 she won the reality television show Big Brother 9. She has continued to support several charities and has actively raised money for them by running the Flora London Marathon in 2009 for the Stroke Association and the Virgin London Marathon 2011 to raise money for St Anne's Hospice.
She currently teaches performing arts (drama and music) at a Welsh comprehensive school and married Richard Jenkins on 30th July 2011.
